Ableton Live 10 Vst Plugins

28.12.2020

This is just a quick, simple tip.
If it takes forever to scan plugins every time you open Live (due to certain poorly-coded plugins taking longer than others and bottlenecking the process), you can set it up to skip plugin scan. Keep in mind that if you do this, you’ll want to perform a manual scan (from preferences) any time you install or update any new VST plugins.

  2. Ableton Live 10 Vst Plug-ins

How to do it?
Add “-NoVstStartupScan” to your options.txt file

But how to do that?
To familiarize yourself with Ableton’s options.txt, i will point you towards sonicbloom.net’s awesome article and series of videos on the topic.

Download thousands of free sample packs and more producer resources: ——— Although Ableton Live 10 comes with severa. To get your iZotope plugin up and running in Ableton you need to check Ableton's AU/VST settings. Navigate to: Ableton. File and Folder. Make sure 'Use AudioUnits/VST' are all checked and hit Rescan. Windows users will only have the option 'VST Plugin Custom Folder', manually navigate to the location you installed your iZotope.

That’s it! Live will no longer do a scan every time it opens.

Ever since i applied this option, the stupidly vast size of my plugin collection doesn’t adversely affect my workflow. Live startup time is way snappier. When i occasionally buy or grab a free plugin, i just run a scan after installing it. Every once in a while you might have to do a “deep” scan (hold alt while clicking the scan button) if something doesn’t show up when it’s supposed to.
Note that from Live 10.1 onward, the plugin rescan button is located in the new dedicated plug-ins tab in Live’s preferences, rather than under file/folder, as previously. /piano-one-vst-4-free.html.

In this video I will help you understand what a VST, or Plug In is and how to install one inside of Ableton so you can expand the capabilities of your DAW!Fo.

Hopefully this nifty tip is inapplicable to you, as that means your plugin scan is not bloated. However, for those of you that are having issues with slow startup of Ableton Live (or in case it eventually becomes an issue) this may be a viable solution.

  4. Ableton Live has a pretty good selection of VST instruments and synthesizers, but you may want access to a bigger collection of sounds. If that’s the case, you should check out the Xfer Records Serum wavetable synthesizer. It got a lot of attention when it was first introduced years ago because of its unique ability to minimize aliasing.

As a producer, audio engineer, or musician, hardware, software, and equipment can get expensive. Having a stack of strong plugins and instruments is imperative – every sound engineer knows the importance of mixing and mastering.

However, there are thousands of plugins to choose from, and many are as or more expensive than the digital audio workstation (DAW) or the equipment you use. With experience engineering audio for over a decade, we’ve collected 5 of our favorite free plugins, VSTs, and instruments. This plugin selection was made with the assumption of the engineer being a MacOS user.
